You will find some new tabs added as the year goes on. The tabs you see here today, at the start of the year, will always be available for the whole year. They will be updated whenever new information becomes available.

What is the time schedule for the sixth grade?

What is the best way for parents to keep on top of homework?
1. Sign up for the Remind App to get a daily text with a quick overview. (Go to Parent Information tab for link on how to sign up.)
2. Look in the agenda! Kids will get these on the very first day. Students are asked by EVERY teacher, EVERYday, to write their assignments in their agendas. If there is no homework, the word "NONE" should appear. This way the student and the adult at home will know if there is or is not any homework for EACH class. The assignments are written on the board in every single class. They are also announced verbally.
3. Visit Jupiter Ed regularly to view the student grade book pages for each subject. Let Ms. Dill know if you need help with this!
4. Students should have a buddy in each class that they can call if they have not written in the homework. Teachers may check email at home after school if a student has a question, but we cannot assure this will always be possible.
What are some ways to communicate with teachers?
A great way to communicate with teachers is through email. In fact, that is the BEST way to communicate with us. The email addresses for each teacher are in the Team Letter found by clicking on the Parent Information tab. We really appreciate your communications with us. You also can call the WJHS office (646-5142) and ask to speak with us. The office will either take a message for us to call you back or you can ask to be put on hold while they find us. We are usually available for phone calls between 8:30 -9:30am and after school from 2:00 - 2:15pm. If a call is needed before a student goes home, please make sure the office knows that so that we are sure to get the message in time. Sometimes we don't check our mailboxes until after kids have gone.
What are some important ways that parents and guardians can help?
- Set a reasonable bedtime for students. They get up early and work hard all day long. They are growing and need rest. Think of how late they sleep in the summer! These kids need their rest in order to get the most out of school.
- Check the remind app EACH day for homework assignments. Oversee that they are done, looking at the completed work. "I did it at school" is probably true in many cases, but it is still okay to ask your child to bring it home to show you that it is done. Ask your child to answer in complete sentences and to write as neatly as possible. Expect quality work every time. Jupiter Ed also has a calendar that often shows due dates of upcoming work and some kids are good about writing in their agendas, also.
- Set aside a homework time. If there is no homework, ask your child to read, rather than play video or computer games. There is 20 - 30 minutes of reading required each day. This will improve many skills, including comprehension, abstract thinking, writing, and creativity. Encourage some physical exercise in each day, also.
- Contact teachers frequently if your child is having trouble. Don't just wait for the teachers to call you. Remember that we might have quite a few students each day that need help or don't hand in work! We can't call everyone, everytime. We thank you for being in touch with us.
- Look on your child's Jupiter Grades for graded work that has been scored. Keep informed on how well your child is performing on homework, tests, and writing pieces by asking to see the papers. By clicking on the name of the subject area, the whole grade book for that class will appear, with individual assignments, and scores. If you click on the name of an assignment, there may be a comment or additional information there, aslo. It does take awhile to get work all graded, so be patient in waiting for the "big" things to get assessed. Just imagine correcting and commenting on dozens of essays or tests, at 5-10+ minutes per paper. Yikes! We work hard to be timely. Thanks for your understanding.
Most importantly, be supportive of respectful classroom behavior by your child. Everyone's choices affect the learning environment.
